Reading Update May 2016

I remember at the beginning of this year that I joined the reading challenge of Goodreads. (Though I don’t use my Goodreads account anymore to update my reading progress.) I pledged to read five books in one year. Yes, just five books. Haha! I have work so I thought I’d only have the time to read five books.

I’m happy to share that since April, I was able to read five novels already! 🙂 Read More »

Book Quotes: My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult

image

Two months ago, I have read a book that gave me so many feels, My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I have first watched it in movie but a blogger friend here on WordPress suggested that I should read the book too because it has different ending and yah, I love the ending that’s in the book. Though the movie made me tear up as well as reading it too and this will always be one of my favorite movies/books. Read More »

American Girl on Saturn by Nikki Godwin

image

Synopsis

The summer after graduation is supposed to be that first real taste of freedom – but not for eighteen-year-old Chloe Branson. Just as that breeze of freedom is making its way into her galaxy, her secret-service-agent dad drops a meteor-sized bomb of bad news on her and her sisters. An attempt has been made on the lives of Canadian boyband, Spaceships Around Saturn, during their USA tour, and the guys have to go into hiding ASAP. The only problem? In the midst of the crisis and media frenzy, their dad volunteered to hide the guys…in their house.

Six-year-old Emery is as ecstatic as any self-proclaimed Saturnite would be, but Chloe and her seventeen-year-old sister Aralie watch their summer plans crash and burn like a falling star. The SAS guys aren’t happy with the situation, either. Bad boy Jules picks fights with Aralie about everything from his Twitter followers to his laundry, and heart-throb Benji can’t escape Emery’s fangirlisms for more than three minutes.

But after the super-cute Milo kisses Chloe during a game of hide-and-seek, she finally understands what Emery means when she talks about SAS being “out of this world.” If this is what Saturn feels like, Chloe doesn’t want to come back to Earth.

I had a lot of smiles reading this book. I’m a fangirl, too. I have my favorite people that I would tweet for them to notice me or reply and whatnot. And those little things will already make me happy! What more if your favorite band will spend weeks at your house?? Oh my gosh. I’m gonna die. Haha!

I wish these band was real. I’m gonna be a Saturnite forever! 🙌

Totally love this book. 💕

Hello Nikki! You did an amazing novel and thank you for replying to my tweets. 🙌😁

Double Dare by Rhonda Nelson

image

Synopsis

Runaway bride Louisa Honeycut is looking for a quick escape when she passes the Double Dare, Inc sign and the slogan “Are you ready for the time of your life?” seems like divine intervention. Sheltered by her overbearing father, Louisa has years of catching up to do and can think of no better person than gorgeous Sam Rawlins to show her. Is she ready for the time of her life? Hell, yes.

Ordinarily unflappable adventure guide Sam Rawlins makes his living showing the wealthy how to have fun, but nothing in his experience could have prepared him for the “adventure” Louisa Honeycut asks for. He might be showing Louisa the time of her life, but the quirky little snack-cake heiress is soon turning Sam’s own life upside down…and perversely, he likes the new vantage point.

I got this for free at Amazon Kindle and this is the first novel I was able to read and finish this summer break.

I loved the part where Louisa is having her adventures (though there were only two adventures mentioned.lol) because I felt her excitement too especially that bungee jumping. I haven’t tried that before but I felt like I could feel also Louisa’s feeling when she did it. That feeling when your stomach knots when you’re jumping so high. Haha!

I have one question though, are adventure guides real? I know there are tour guides but I don’t know about adventure guides where they would accompany you in your adventure wherever it is. Wouldn’t that cost the adventure seeker bigger bill? 😁 okay, maybe it’s just the author’s product of imagination. Haha!

Another thing, I hope this novel had an editor or proofreaders, there were a lot of errors.

Eleven Days: An Unexpected Love by Lora Lindy

image

Let me just start this off by saying that this novel was beautifully written and I really liked it. ❤

I was notified through email that I can get this book for free on Amazon Kindle. I read the synopsis and I was not really interested at first but thank goodness I still downloaded it, though, it took me weeks to begin reading this.

image

It’s about Lana whom after her beloved cousin died had rented a beach house away from home to grieve and enjoy solitude. The beach house is owned by a US Marshall and the moment they met they were smitten with each other. Their love grows as each day passes until this stalker entered the scene. Fortunately, Mike, the federal agent, is there to protect her.

This novel will have a special place in my heart. I was emotionally attached to this. I was really saddened with the ending that it made me teary eyed and I worried about Mike if what will happen to him next as if this is based on a true story. Though this is fiction, it still had me thinking about other people who had lost a loved one and I know how painful it is. Especially if it’s like about the main characters here. They just known each other and were fell in love at first sight. Though knowing just each other for a short period of time, they were already sure that they’ll spend the rest of their lives with each other. They could have lived happily if only this #&$%*@ villain didn’t enter the scene!!! Ugh! (Oops! Remind me again that this novel is just a work of fiction.)

image

I’m really broken hearted with the ending and it made me want to read the next series because it’s in the second book where they would hunt the culprit. I’m really hoping there would be happy ending at least on its sequel.

The author wrote at the end of the book, ” … to be continued…. Thirty Days: The Hunt for Angelino Marquit –KEEP IN MIND, things may not be what they seem.” My goodness! I’m so intrigued! Hmm, why is it that I have a feeling that they’ll fail to capture Angelino, the culprit. 😦 because there’s still a third book Four Days: The Revenge.

With this I need to email the author and tell her how I enjoyed but left heartbroken with her novel and is looking forward to reading the next two series. 😀

Thank you for reading!  ❤❤

The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith

Warning: Might have some spoilers. ✌

I loved the plot of this novel and loved how this book showed that distance can’t separate two hearts that really care. 🙂

By reading this book, I could also imagine that I’m traveling with the two main characters, Owen and Lucy. It’s actually what I wanted to do, to travel. I’m a wanderlust but as of now I would only get to explore Manila and the nearby places/provinces because of lack of budget. 😜 I hope I could travel farther when I graduate.

Just like Owen and Lucy, I had also lived at different places and I know how hard it is to start over again especially at school. New environment and new people to talk to. One thing I loved about it, though, is that I gained friends everywhere we lived and I’m happy that I still have communications with mostly of them.

Of all the chapters, my two favorites are Chapters 33 & 34. Hihi. 😁 you’ll know why if you’ll read the book. I loved the ending that they _________ but after reading it you’d wish that you had the book’s sequel. So, yeah, I wish there would be a sequel.

Owen and Lucy had sent postcards to each other that it made me want to try it, too. I haven’t done that in my whole life! Good thing, though, I have this friend who’s at Belgium and I’m happy that he agreed that I’ll send him a postcard. 😀

image

I’m glad that he’s willing to send one to me, too! As we were chatting earlier, I was already excited to receive it and to send his way. Haha. After our class, together with Alona, we went to a bookstore to buy postcards and a card to send to my friend who’s at Belgium. I’m so thrilled with this idea. 😄😄

The parents of Owen and Lucy were very supportive about the plan the two had and I was just like, Wow! I bet my mother won’t let me fly across the ocean just to see someone I hardly knew. 😜

Quotes from the book:
1. “There’s a difference between loneliness and solitude.”
2. “There was no point in waiting for someone who hadn’t asked, and there was no point in wishing for something that would never happen.”
3. “You can’t know the answer until you ask the question.”
4. “the most basic sort of love: to be worried about the one who was worrying about you.”

There you go, my thoughts about the book. Sorry if I revealed too much, I just can’t help it. ✌ I hope you would still give this book a try, you’ll love it, too. ❤ Wishing for a sequel!

The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks x quotes

I stayed up late last night just to finish this novel. It’s so beautiful! ❤

I was already hooked to this novel even just after reading its prologue and every chapter are too beautiful that you would want to read it continuously and never put it down.

I seriously had no idea that the ending will go that way! I really didn’t expect it. It was amazing.  Wow! Just wow!

Maybe some of you would say that what I wrote is kind of exaggerated. Haha! But really, I find the story super amazing! 😀

This novel was published last 2003 that I wondered why it took me so long to download this book and read it. Was I living under the rock all those years?? Lol 😜Read More »

The Killing Moon (Cole and Dana Book 1)

image
Kindle edition.

Synopsis

Six months ago, werewolf tracker Dana Gray barely escaped from Cole Randall, the wolf serial killer who kept her in his basement torturing her. Toying with her. He almost killed her, but he couldn’t. He let her live.
Now, she finds herself obsessed with Cole. His voice haunts her, hypnotic and liquid, flowing through her, both horrifying and arousing. She can’t shut him up.
At her job, she struggles with a bewildering case in which rehabilitated werewolves are going astray and killing again. From his maximum security cell, Cole claims he has all the answers. But he’ll only talk to Dana.
Maybe Cole knows something. Maybe he doesn’t. Dana doesn’t know. She only knows she’s grateful for the excuse to go to him. And once she hears his voice again, she’ll do anything to see him, whether it helps the case or not.

I don’t know about you but I don’t like reading synopsis because for me they’re a spoiler already. As much as possible I want to have zero knowledge on what I’ll read. If you’re like me, sorry for still posting the synopsis. 😁✌

It’s my first time to read a novel from the author and also my first time to read a novel about werewolves. And, this one didn’t disappoint me. ❤
I actually almost gave up reading this book because I find the first two chapters boring. 😜 Good thing I kept on insisting myself to keep on reading because this book turned out to be such a good read. I loved it! 🙂

*I seriously do not know how to make a book review.  Haha! But I’m working on that. I’m reading some articles in the internet giving tips on how to make one. 😀

Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks x Quotes

Hello guys. ❤ I’m writing this draft at 1:16am and I just finished reading the novel. This is the second night that I stayed very late to finish this book. I can’t seem to stop reading because I wanted to know what will happen to the characters as soon as possible. It’s so beautiful that I want to cry (haha! Exagg..) and thank Nicholas for the happy ending. I love happy ending!
Who have read the book already? It’s so beautiful, right? This is definitely one of my favorites already.
I can’t wait for tomorrow, I mean later, to tell my cousin about this book. I’m sure she’ll love it, too. 🙂

Let’s get down to some quotable quotes I found from this book. I quoted a lot and I even made a simple edit for my favorite quote from this book. It reminded of my dark past. 😦

image

I made it because I’m planning to post it on my Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. (Shameless plugging. 😜✌)

1. “Sometimes starting over is exactly what a person needs. And I think it’s admirable. A lot of people don’t have the courage it takes to do something like that.”

2. “being comfortable meant she might lower her guard” quoted this because I think I’ve done this once or twice in my life

3. “Because in the end, and no matter how hard it is, acceptance helps people move on with the rest of their lives.” 👍

4. “People hide the truth because they’re afraid.”

5. “My friend is scared all the time.”

“That’s what courage is. If she weren’t scared, she wouldn’t need courage in the first place. I admire what she did.”

6. “That’s the thing about life. A lot of the time, it isn’t easy at all. We just have to try to make the best of it.

7. “Love doesn’t mean anything if you’re not willing to make a commitment,” she said, “and you have to think not only about what you want, but about what he wants. Not just now, but in the future.”

8.  “I’m not sure anyone’s life turns out exactly the way they imagine. All we can do is to try to make the best of it. Even when it seems impossible.”

9. “I truly believe that while love can hurt, love can also heal…”

10. “Be careful what you wish for.”

11. “Long-term relationships—the ones that matter—are all about weathering the peaks and the valleys.”

12. “I’ve come to believe that in everyone’s life, there’s one undeniable moment of change, a set of circumstances that suddenly alters everything.”

Have you read the book? If not, would you give it a try? 🙂
